Book Twenty-Eight

Writer: Constance Lowry-ByeConstance Lowry-Bye

"Doctor Sleep" By Stephen King

Dan Torrance was never a normal little boy. Traumatized by evil while growing up in Overlook Hotel he turned to alcohol as an adult. Dan was born with special abilities called the shine. He can hear others thoughts, see through someone else eyes, and guide some to a peaceful death. He has lived a selfish life until he meets Abra, a young girl who is also gifted with the shine. Abra reaches out to Dan because she is in serious danger. An evil group, True Knot, travels in packs, killing children like Abra, and feeding off their shine. Abra is their next victim. It's a cat and mouse story that makes you appreciate the simple life.

I just cannot understand the King fan club. The (supposedly) number one author of horror, can't keep me interested. I have read a few of his novels so far and only enjoyed a couple. I wish I could experience the fear that should come from a horror book. I do have to stay I enjoyed the storyline. I only wish it had been more of a thrill.

Three out of five stars.
