"The Haunting of Blackwood House"

By Darcy Coates

Mara grew up in a house of spiritualists. After years of séances, hauntings, and future tellers, she swears off the life, including her family.

She spends her twenty's saving every penny she earns in hopes of buying her own home. She wants something to belong only to her, something that is not tainted from her childhood. When she's ready to house hunt her boyfriend, Neil, vows to give her the space and freedom she needs in choosing a home. When Mara's realtor shows her Blackwood house it's love at first sight. Warned against the homes past, strange noises, and things moving on their own, Mara turns a blind eye. She doesn't believe in any of it. Not since she was a little girl. It only takes a few days for Mara to realize she cannot explain away some of things happening in her new home. Mara quickly discovers that maybe, just maybe, her parents weren't totally wrong.

I really enjoyed this book. It was like trying to put together a puzzle. It kept me guessing, why was the house haunted and what do the different apparitions mean? I wouldn't say the book is scary, at all, it's more of a supernatural mystery. Three out of five stars.
